Well, this was a big one and a massive undertaking for me. I have yet to do anything to this scale with environment art and lighting and I learned a lot from it. First, this project was done over 9-10 weeks with an additional week for tweaks. This project aimed to try to capture the scale of a city like Venice and not make any part of it feel out of scale in any way. the other goal was to actively try and use proper outdoor lighting to make the piece blend better through the lighting more than anything else. I learned from this project that is massively difficult to capture this type of scale as a solo artist and I also could see the ability to lose track of time as well as quality while trying to build something on a massive scale. To avoid certain losses of quality and time I had a timeline in place for each week and also made cuts and decisions early on in modeling to allow for repeat assets without a lot of noticeable repetition. Another major thing I learned from this piece was the scale of lighting and the need for more focused lighting to really draw people's eyes into large subjects like the Basilica's dome. This was so much fun to work on and was a massive step in a new direction for me and I can't wait to see what's next. I can't end this without saying my massive thanks to Matthew Dismuke ( https://www.artstation.com/mattd ) an Alumni environment artist who helped Mentor and gave valuable feedback to me through this process.
I used assets from Quxiel to fill in vegetation and fruits as well as wall decals in the scene
